Voice Input & Driving Mode

Crew supports hands-free interaction through voice input and a dedicated Driving Mode for when you can't type.

Voice Input

How to Use

Click the microphone icon in the chat input area to start voice dictation. Speak naturally, and your words are automatically transcribed into the text box.

  • Voice input uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (Web Speech API)

  • No additional setup or accounts required

  • Works in Chrome, Edge, and most modern browsers

  • Supports multiple languages — it detects the language you're speaking

Tips for Voice Input

  • Speak clearly and at a normal pace

  • You can edit the transcribed text before sending

  • Click the microphone icon again to stop recording

  • Works best in a quiet environment

Driving Mode

Driving Mode transforms Crew into a fully hands-free voice assistant — perfect for when you're driving, cooking, exercising, or otherwise can't look at a screen.

How It Works

  1. Click the Driving Mode button (car icon) in the chat area

  2. A full-screen overlay appears with a large visual indicator

  3. Speak your request — Crew listens automatically

  4. Crew processes your request using all available tools

  5. Crew reads the response aloud using natural text-to-speech

  6. The cycle repeats — Crew listens for your next request

Full Tool Access

Driving Mode isn't just a voice chatbot — it's your full Crew agent, hands-free. While in Driving Mode, Crew can:

  • Search the web for real-time information

  • Check your email and read important messages aloud

  • Manage your calendar — create events, check schedules

  • Send messages through connected messengers

  • Check the news and give you updates

  • Use any tool available in your regular chat

This means you can carry out complex tasks entirely by voice, just as you would by typing.

Example: "Check if I got any urgent emails in the last hour and read me the subject lines." Crew searches your inbox, finds urgent emails, and reads the summaries aloud — all while you keep your eyes on the road.

Features

  • Full-screen interface: Large, easy-to-see indicators even from a distance

  • Auto-listen: No need to press a button — Crew starts listening after reading its response

  • Natural voices: Male and female voice options in 30+ languages

  • All tools available: Crew can search the web, check your email, manage your calendar, send messages — everything it normally does

  • Live conversation: Maintains context throughout the session, so follow-up questions work naturally

Driving Mode Credits

Text-to-speech in Driving Mode uses a small number of credits based on the length of the response. Approximately 83 characters per credit, with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 120 credits per response.

Safety Notice

When you first activate Driving Mode, you'll see a safety reminder:

  • Keep your eyes on the road at all times

  • Crew's responses are AI-generated and may contain errors

  • Don't rely on Crew for navigation or safety-critical decisions

Example Driving Mode Conversations

You: "What's on my calendar for the rest of today?" Crew: (reads aloud) "You have two meetings this afternoon. A product review at 2 PM with the design team, and a 1-on-1 with your manager at 4 PM."

You: "Send a quick message to Sarah saying I'll be 10 minutes late to the 2 PM meeting." Crew: (reads aloud) "I've sent an email to Sarah letting her know you'll be 10 minutes late to the product review."

You: "Search the web for the latest news about the AI industry." Crew: (reads aloud) "Here are today's top AI stories..."

You: "What's the weather going to be like tomorrow?" Crew: (reads aloud) "Tomorrow in San Francisco it will be partly cloudy with a high of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. No rain expected."

Exiting Driving Mode

Tap anywhere on the screen or press Escape to exit Driving Mode and return to the regular chat interface.
