# Sign Up & Your First Chat

Getting started with Crew takes less than a minute.

## Step 1: Sign Up

1. Go to [crew.you](https://crew.you)
2. Click **Sign in with Google** or **Sign in with Microsoft**
3. Authorize the basic permissions (email and profile)
4. You're in!

No separate password to remember — Crew uses your existing Google or Microsoft account for secure authentication.

## Step 2: Take a Look Around

After signing in, you'll land on the **Chat** page. Here's what you'll see:

* **Sidebar** (left): Navigation to Chat, Messengers, Tools, Marketplace, Activity, Billing, and Settings
* **Chat area** (center): Where you talk to your AI assistant
* **Credit indicator** (sidebar): Shows your remaining monthly credits

## Step 3: Have Your First Conversation

Just type a message in the chat box and press Enter. Try something like:

> "Hi! What can you help me with?"

Crew will introduce itself and explain its capabilities based on your current setup.

### Try These First-Chat Examples

**Ask a question:**

> "What's the weather like in San Francisco today?"

**Get help with writing:**

> "Write a professional email declining a meeting invitation politely."

**Do some research:**

> "Search for the top 5 project management tools in 2026 and compare their features."

**Create something:**

> "Generate a simple logo for a tech startup called 'NovaTech' — blue and minimalist."

## Step 4: Connect Your Services (Recommended)

To unlock Crew's full potential, connect your Google or Microsoft services:

1. Go to **Settings** (gear icon in sidebar)
2. Scroll to **Service Connections**
3. Click **Connect** next to Google or Microsoft
4. Authorize the requested permissions

Once connected, you can ask Crew to:

* Read and send emails
* Check and manage your calendar
* Search and upload files to your cloud storage
* Look up contacts

## Step 5: Link a Messenger (Optional)

Want to use Crew from your favorite messaging app? Go to **Messengers** and follow the setup guide for your platform. Supported messengers:

* WhatsApp
* Slack
* Discord
* Telegram
* Microsoft Teams
* LINE
* KakaoTalk

See the [Messenger Connections](/messenger-channels/overview.md) section for detailed setup guides.

## Tips for New Users

* **Be specific**: Instead of "help me with email," try "find unread emails from John about the project deadline"
* **Use natural language**: No special commands needed — just type like you're messaging a colleague
* **Check your tools**: Visit the **Tools** page to see everything Crew can do and enable the tools you need
* **Explore the Marketplace**: Install additional skills for specialized tasks like data analysis, sales outreach, or legal document review
