GitHub

Connect your GitHub account to manage repositories, issues, pull requests, and even make code changes — all through conversation.

Plan requirement: GitHub integration is available on Pro plan.

Connecting GitHub

Crew uses a GitHub App called Crew Agent for secure, fine-grained access to your repositories.

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar

  2. Scroll to Service Connections

  3. Click Connect next to GitHub

  4. You'll be redirected to GitHub to install the Crew Agent app

  5. Choose which repositories to grant access to (all repos, or select specific ones)

  6. Authorize the app — you'll be sent back to Crew

Once connected, your GitHub username will appear in the Settings page.

Why a GitHub App?

The Crew Agent GitHub App provides:

  • Fine-grained permissions — Only access the repositories you choose

  • Secure coding agent — The Coding Agent can clone repos and create PRs without needing your personal access token

  • Automatic token refresh — No need to reconnect when tokens expire

Reconnecting

If you need to change which repositories Crew can access, disconnect and reconnect GitHub from the Settings page. You'll be able to update your repository selection during the reinstallation.

What You Can Do

Repository Management

"List my GitHub repositories."

"Show me the open issues in my-org/my-repo."

"What are the most recent pull requests in the frontend repo?"

Issues

"Create an issue in my-org/api-server titled 'Fix login timeout' with a description of the bug."

"List all issues assigned to me across my repositories."

"Close issue #42 in the backend repo."

Pull Requests

"Show me the open PRs in the design-system repo."

"What's the status of PR #15?"

"Create a PR review comment."

Coding Agent

The Coding Agent is a powerful feature that can make actual code changes to your repository:

"In my-org/frontend-app, fix the CSS alignment issue on the login page. The submit button should be centered."

"Refactor the authentication module in my-org/api-server to use JWT tokens instead of session cookies."

When you use the Coding Agent:

  1. Crew clones the repository in a secure environment

  2. Makes the requested changes autonomously

  3. Commits the changes to a new branch

  4. Creates a pull request for your review

This runs in the background — you can continue chatting while it works. Crew will notify you when the PR is ready.

Practical Scenarios

Bug Triage

"Show me all open bugs in the main repo, sort by newest, and summarize the top 5."

Code Review Prep

"List the open PRs that need my review and summarize what each one changes."

Quick Fixes

"The README in my-org/docs has a typo — change 'recieve' to 'receive' and create a PR."

Important Notes

  • The Coding Agent creates branches and PRs — it never pushes directly to main

  • You always review and merge changes yourself

  • Repository access is controlled by your GitHub App installation — Crew can only access repos you've explicitly allowed
