# Creating Your Own Signal

Can't find a signal for the topic you care about? Create your own. Crew's AI will research, score, and publish articles on your chosen topic — automatically.

## How to Create a Signal

1. Go to **Signals** → click **Create Signal** in the top navigation
2. **Describe your signal** — Tell Crew what you want to track. For example:
   * "Top AI research papers published this week"
   * "Startup funding rounds over $10M in the healthcare space"
   * "New open source developer tools trending on GitHub"
3. **Review the AI-generated config** — Crew suggests a title, description, category, schedule, and quality threshold. Edit anything you want.
4. **Preview sample articles** — Crew generates 2–3 sample articles so you can see what the signal will produce. If they don't look right, regenerate or tweak your description.
5. **Publish** — Your signal is created in draft mode. Once it has at least one entry, you can activate it.

## Signal Settings

When creating or editing a signal, you can configure:

| Setting | Options |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Category** | AI & Tech, Finance, Science, Culture, Business, Open Source, Regional, Health, Education |
| **Schedule** | Daily, Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly |
| **Language** | Any of the 14 supported languages |
| **Quality threshold** | Minimum quality score for published articles |

## Managing Your Signals

Go to **My Signals** in the Signals navigation to see all the signals you've created. For each signal you can:

* **View** — See the public signal page with all published articles
* **Pause** — Temporarily stop generating new articles
* **Resume** — Restart a paused signal
* **Activate** — Make a draft signal live (requires at least one entry)
* **Delete** — Permanently remove the signal

## Signal Status

| Status | Meaning |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Draft** | Just created, not yet active. Needs at least one entry to activate. |
| **Active** | Running on schedule, generating new articles automatically. |
| **Paused** | Temporarily stopped. No new articles until you resume. |

## Tips for Great Signals

* **Be specific** — "AI papers about transformer efficiency" works better than "AI news"
* **Set the right frequency** — Fast-moving topics (startup funding) suit daily; niche topics (academic research) suit weekly or biweekly
* **Check sample articles** — The preview step lets you fine-tune before publishing
* **Share with others** — Your published signals are visible to all Crew users, so others can subscribe too
