Tools Overview

Tools are the superpowers behind Crew. Each tool gives the AI the ability to perform a specific action — from searching the web to creating documents to running code. When you ask Crew to do something, it automatically selects the right tools for the job.

How Tools Work

You don't need to call tools directly — just describe what you want in natural language, and Crew figures out which tools to use. For example:

"Find recent news about AI and create a summary PDF."

Crew will use the Web Search tool to find articles, then the Document Creation tool to generate the PDF — all automatically.

Managing Tools

Enabling & Disabling Tools

Go to Tools in the sidebar to see all available tools. Each tool has a toggle switch:

• Enabled (default): Crew can use this tool when needed

• Disabled: Crew won't use this tool, even if it would be helpful

This gives you full control over what Crew can and can't do. For example, if you don't want Crew to send emails on your behalf, disable the Gmail tool.
